The who’s who of fashion flocked to the Peruvian hotspot to celebrate the brands turning 40, as well as enjoy an exclusive first look at The 1975 Collection – a new commemorative collection that embodies the meticulous craftsmanship, technical innovation and functional superiority that TUMI is renowned for and which pays homage to its founding year.
Shoe designer, leather fanatic, Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund nominee, craftsman, founder and Design Director are just a few of the impressive credentials that you would find on the résumé of Tumi’s front man, Georges Esquivel. His new collection for Tumi is crafted from natural, full grain cowhide leather similar to the variety TUMI imported from South America in the early years and TUMI’s signature ballistic nylon and boasts styles from carry-ons and briefcases, to rucksacks and square duffels.
An A-list adorned following, with the likes of Liam Hemsworth, Hilary Swank, Angelina Jolie and Cameron Diaz, and his own bespoke shoe brand, Georges Esquivel shows no signs of slowing down. The Luxury Closet stole 60 seconds of this talented mans time to talk all things travel, Tumi and style…
What was the inspiration behind the new collection?
The mixing of our heritage with new materials. Our heritage being leather and our modern material being ballistic nylon.
Why do you think Tumi appeals so much to this region?
Dubai is so accustomed to top quality products, the best of the best. And that’s exactly what Tumi is!
Tumi is all about travel – if you could visit or live anywhere in the world where would it be?
I think an around the world trip would an amazing adventure. Or I’d love to live in Paris, that would be so much fun.
Any designers you would love to collaborate with?
There are just too many to name!
Any celebrities you would love to see out with one of your pieces?
My favourites celebs are already carrying our pieces, of course!
What was your favourite thing about Dubai?
The people and the food.
