Royal Ascot: The Rules of Dressy Daywear

Andrea Emerson_426x639 Christine Bos 1_426x639We’ve done the Dubai World Cup, but as Britain’s most valuable race meeting kicks off tomorrow, we take a look at our most stylish dresses and killer heels at The Luxury Closet, which will win you a place on the ‘best dressed’ list. Attracting many of the world’s finest racehorses to compete for more than £5.5milllion in prize money, the Royal Ascot is long seen as a spectacle of fashion and style, concerning itself with what people wear almost as much as the racing!

But did you know officials have recently tightened up the dress code at the prestigious race course? And this year, they’ve revealed they are determined to enforce the Ascot dress code rules. Which bares questions such as: how short is too short? Are my skyscraper heels, adorned with studs and spikes, a little OTT? Are straps and floaty fabrics de rigueur?

Ella McNeill_426x639Claire Mead_426x639Well, for starters, “female racegoers are required to wear dresses or skirts of ‘modest length’ which fall on or below the knee, and make sure their shoulders are covered. Meanwhile, men are expected to wear a suit and tie.” Sounds simple, right? Arguably a five day fashion show, you’ve got plenty of time to play around with your ensemble and parade around the Berkshire track, showing off in the sartorial stakes.

Step up to the UK’s biggest social summer occasion with our guide to the best daywear dresses. Invest in one, then be fashion clever and switch up your accessories and flex your styling muscles to make it work for each subsequent do! To get you in the mood, here are some of our favourite street style snaps for sartorial inspiration…

It’s a feast for the eyes – and this year we don’t want to disappoint!
