As The Luxury Closet grows and grows, so does our list of brands. Most recently we have welcomed Chalayan to our fashion family, now accepting women’s clothing from the British based fashion house.
Hussein Chalayan, also spelled Hüseyin Çağlayan, was born in 1970 in Nicosia, Cyprus. He moved to London in 1982 and graduated in 1993 from Central St Martins School of Art and Design. In 1994 he created his eponymous label and went on to be named British Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards in 1999 and in 2000.
In 2002, Chalayan moved his internationally lauded fashion show from London to Paris where the Chalayan collection is shown seasonally. The designer and artist is known for his innovative inventions, meticulous pattern cutting and progressive attitude to new technology, which lends itself to his oh-so avant-garde shows.
He has since gone on to work with brands and create capsule collections for the likes of Topshop, Marks & Spencer, J Brand Jeans, Swarovski and Mavi Jeans. In 2006 Chalayan was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honour’s list, and in February 2008 he was appointed Creative Director of Puma.
