A brand which began by producing high quality outerwear for British military officers in WW1 has become a fashion staple all around the world.
As the story goes, the invention of fashion’s favourite print was an accident. In 1967, the manager of Burberry’s Paris store was styling a group of the brand’s signature trench coats in the front window, however they thought the display was a bit on the plain side. So the manager decided to mix it up a bit by turning up the hem on the coat, revealing the signature black, red and camel check print – and the sales went through the roof. Burberry then started creating umbrellas with the signature plaid and hundreds of them sold out too. Eventually, the brand was producing scarves, coats and other check-adorned pieces, and the rest, as they say, was fashion history!
