How to wear Fall layers

Layers are a great way of staying warm and looking chic, as well as getting the most out of your Fall wardrobe – by wearing it all at the same time.  Think minimalist and channel your inner Olivia Palermo, arguably the Queen of the layered look, with these five tips.

Vary your fabrics.

Achieve the ultimate layered look by varying silks with tweeds, velvets with denims and so on.  Lighter materials will work best under more those that are more robust, and make sure you aren’t adding any unnecessary inches to your body.  Use sleeveless jackets to ensure your shirt gets the attention it deserves, team with a pair of killer heels and you’re ready to go!

Flatter your waistline with feminine silhouettes.

Tuck in an oversized shirt to a flattering high waisted skirt to cinch in your waist.  Using prints to help create angles within the outfit will maximise this effect and have you looking street-style ready.  Here we have a denim shirt, pulled in by a striped midi skirt and finished with some on-trend burgundy boots.

Use colour.

Break up a layered look by using a colour pop.  Mustard yellow is tagging along relentlessly through the seasons this year and goes great with pin stripe blue to create a contrast just bright enough to merit our approval.

Go grunge.

If your boyfriend isn’t kind enough to lend you his sweater, your need to invest in something from Peter Pilotto or Kenzo this season.  Their funky designs and relaxed shapes match perfectly with a floaty skirt and some sky-high stilletos for an “I just threw this on” look that is guaranteed to impress.

Use prints

As we mentioned earlier, prints are a great way of creating angles or focus points that allow the layered look to work.  Florals can be taken into the Fall season by using on-trend colours such as we have here, also adhering to the varied fabrics and colour pop tips.
