Perfect Silhouettes for Your Body Shape – A Guide

Be it men or women, everyone has to play multiple roles in a day and each occasion demands appropriate dressing. While there are defined as well as undefined dress codes for every occasion of your life, there is one more important thing to abide by when you get dressed, and that is to dress as per your body shape. You can wear trendy as well as stylish clothes but choose silhouettes that flatter your body rather than make you feel awkward or take away from your confidence.

Dress in styles that look good on different body shapes

You can decide on your body shape by measuring your chest, abdomen and the hip region. Write down the measurements. Once you know what the shape of your body is, you can easily find patterns, styles, designs and shapes that will look great on your body shape.

1. Lean

Those who are lean can opt for midi skirts or rather an outfit that comes with separates. You can add a belt for the effect or even cropped trousers. It is best to prevent clothes with volume. Being tall is in itself a style statement. However, if you love to wear heels and feel comfortable in them, go for it! There is nothing wrong in accentuating your height. For a day look, you can opt for a fitted top and trousers. Ankle length bottoms will look even better. A monochrome look will add to your tall frame. Never over accessorize with too many jewellery pieces or makeup. For parties and fun evenings, a floor length dress can be just right. Shop from a range of women’s skirts here.

2. Hourglass

The size of your shoulders and hips will be same while your waist will be more defined. If you have a curvy figure with a tiny waist, then you have an hourglass figure. Wear clothes that focus on your waist. Always opt for fitting clothes and avoid loose outfits. V-neck dresses, pencil skirts and a fitted top will look good. Maintain a balance in your dressing style by opting for a fitted top if you are wearing flared pants. Opt for outfits with embellishment or even a mini dress with pumps. A belted jacket, a wrap around women’s dress or a crop top also suit your body shape.

3. Apple shape

Apple shape is when the lower body part is slim but the weight seems to be around the middle part of the body and you can wear dresses that take attention off your waist. V-necks and A-line dresses look good. Avoid silhouettes that stick to your body and also bulky tops. Both skinny jeans and pants with straight legs will look great on this body shape and so will flared pants. Layered tops and tunics are also good choices. Always pick up dresses that flatter your abdominal area and stretch out to your hips. You can wear a flowy top with skinny jeans. If you want to dress up, opt for a shift dress, flaunt your legs, and rock it!

4. Pear shape

If you have wide hips, then you have a pear shaped body. A great tip to balance out your body shape is to highlight your shoulder area by wearing scarves. Bright colored necklaces also will do. Go for tops and dresses that have patterns, ornamentation or embroidery as it draws attention to the slim torso. It is best to avoid tight fitting trousers or bottom. When it comes to skirts, choose A-line skirts and not mini or pencil skirts. Opt for monochrome colors for your bottom wear while for the top, opt for more color. For a party wear, go for one shoulder dresses that will focus on your upper body. The dress should highlight your waist because it allows covering your hip region.

5. Rectangular body shape

Your shoulders, hips and bust will be of the same size. Such a body shape is without curves, so naturally, you should wear dresses that will create them for you. Accentuating your waist will give your body shape. Opt for uncluttered silhouette. Wrap dresses are best. Dresses or outfits with empire waist suit those with rectangular body shape. A top with ruffles and that extend to your mid hips can lend volume to the torso. Peplum jackets are also helpful in lending curves. Some must-have outfits in your wardrobe are a pair of fitting jeans, a long cardigan, a lightweight coat and a dress that lends shape to your waist.

6. Inverted triangle

Your bust will be wider than your hips. Wear jackets that can highlight curves in your lower body while at the same time, will divert attention to your shoulders. Choose tops that will draw attention to your waist. V-necked tops, or shirts that have nipping at the waist or wrap style tops are best bets. If you are opting for shirts, then go for tailored shirts or those with vertical details.

There are always those clothes that will look flattering to a body shape and those that don’t fit. The trick is to find the styles that will add to the beauty of the body and that you will feel confident in. Brands today focus on all types of body shapes. So, if you are petite, plus size or pear shaped, there is no longer the need to stick to a particular pattern of cloth as there are varied, trendy and fashionable outfits that will lend the perfect fit to your body. The only tip is to choose wisely and sensibly. No matter what you wear, go about it confidently and declare to the world that you are who you are!
