Every once in a while, there emerges a time when a figure or voice stands out from amongst the rest and settles to exist in uniqueness. Jonathan Anderson is such a force; a visionary in the phase of modern fashion, contributing well towards the direction of endless possibilities.
Jonathan Anderson launched his label JW Anderson to critical acclaim in the year of 2008 with menswear and incorporated a commercially-successful womenswear line later on in 2010. He is the recipient of many accolades at the British Fashion Awards, most memorably the record-breaking double award for ‘Menswear’ and ‘Womenswear Designer of the Year’ in 2015. His designs express a sense of wit and innovation daringly executed through refined craftsmanship and tailoring. Anderson is best known for his neutral approach to gender with his own label and his makeover of Loewe since taking on as creative director in 2013.
The Pierce Bag
Jonathan Anderson designed the Pierce bag for his own label’s Autumn Winter collection of 2016. It went on to become a ‘street style’ hit and an Instagram celebrity. In design, the bag has a boxy shape and eyelets looped with a metal ring. The highlight is clearly the open ring that mimics the piercings typically used on the belly button. Hence, the name ‘Pierce’.
Our Bag of the Week is this gorgeous version crafted from suede and leather in a dark green shade. It features accordion gussets and three suede compartments to nestle your essentials. The signature double-ball ring on the flap is sculpted from gold-tone metal, and because its edges are smoothened, it allows you to slip your hand in as a bracelet. The bag is finished with a broad shoulder strap that is detachable.
The Pierce bag by JW Anderson is no longer for sale on the brand’s online store, but it still makes an appearance during fashion weeks and on social media. This following for Anderson’s Pierce only goes on to validate its appeal and charm as a modern-day ‘It’ bag.
