Smeg x Dolce & Gabbana: A Waltz of Visual Art and Technology

If a kitchen is the heart of a home, then appliances can well be its heartbeats. Products for kitchens must be designed and continuously innovated to make the experience of cooking easier without disrupting the space’s aesthetics, and to this, Smeg agrees. Founded in 1948 by Vittorio Bertazzoni Sr, Smeg’s appliances are all about efficiency, safety, appeal, and versatility. Creating highly practical kitchens with retro-inspired ideas and high profile collaborations, Smeg is one of the frontrunners in its field.

SICILY IS MY LOVE

A special ‘Made in Italy’ collection of small household products created with Smeg’s state-of-the-art technology and Dolce & Gabbana’s breathtaking visual work. The Sicily is My Love line was unveiled in 2017, a year after the partnered release of 100 hand-painted refrigerators. The creative collaboration where fashion meets design appliances is a grand homage to Sicily—designer duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s beloved land of inspiration. Ranging from toasters and blenders to juicers and kettles alight with lemons, pears, cherries, citrus fruits, and classic motifs, each piece is crafted by skilled Sicilian artists and embedded with the beauty of Italian culture, cuisine, and history.

Translated to ‘divine kitchen’ in Italian, the third collection by Smeg with Dolce & Gabbana to celebrate the splendor of Sicily is aesthetically presented in two varying lines:

  • Sicilian puppet theatre and traditional Sicilian cart with red and orange as the primary colors
  • Mediterranean Maiolica ceramics in hues of blue and white

The continued ‘Made in Italy’ project introduced a cooker hood, a unique FAB28 fridge, and a freestanding kitchen set. Every product is adorned with such details to elevate it from being just a home accessory to a functional work of art.

Below are a few products from this passionate collaboration currently available for purchase at The Luxury Closet. Look closely, and you’ll find a story, memory, or a dream in one of these heavily-decorated domestic staples.
