Bag of the Week: Gucci Grey Sylvie Shoulder Bag

Since taking on as creative director of Gucci, Alessandro Michele’s designs have been spoken about loud and far for being exciting, flamboyant, and highly desirable. The Dionysus bag and the Princetown shoes are among the wave-makers of Michele’s vision. Another beloved design by him is the Gucci Sylvie bag. First introduced as part of the brand’s Spring/Summer 2016 Collection, the Sylvie thrives as one of the top coveted bags in the luxury world.

In terms of design, details such as the contrasting Web stripes, chain, and buckle have been sourced from Gucci’s archives. Even the signature silhouette of the bag was brought back from the ’60s and ’70s. Made in Italy, the Sylvie is available in three versions: top handle, shoulder bag, and mini chain.

Rendered in smooth grey leather, the bag bears a seamless construction of tonal stitches running in perfect symmetry. Laid along the center of the bag are the signature motifs in gold-tone metal and the iconic stripe panel which has come to be synonymous with the Italian house. The suede interior is capable of enclosing your wallet, phone, and beauty items, and to access it, the GUCCI-engraved metal tab must be turned downwards. The bag can be held in two ways: with the striped grosgrain shoulder strap or the grey leather one. The grosgrain strap can also be tied as a decorative bow when the leather strap is being used.

Although heavily inspired from the past, the Sylvie does not exude a traditional appeal as most of the popular designer handbags. Instead, it has a modern and contemporary charm suitable for the women of today. To find more versions of Sylvie, click here.
